At
a meeting of the Synod held in 2003, one of
the critical items discussed was the decline
in active members of the Catholic Church here
in Trinidad and Tobago. Many reasons
were identified for this, one of which was
that very many Catholics do not really know
what the Church teaches, nor do they
understand the rich treasures of our Faith. Arising out of this discussion was the setting
up of the Evangelization Commission, headed by
Fr. Urban Hudlin O.P.
Mission
Statement
The
Mission Statement of the Commission is "To
bring people back to the church and to enrich
those who are actively involved in the life of
faith so as to create a more dynamic Catholic
Community."
Evangelization
connotes a process by which persons come into
deeper relationship with God, all of creation
and other human persons. Because
Evangelization is at the heart of the
Church’s life, the Gospel must touch every
strata of human engagement.
Evangelii
Nuncianti, “Evangelization in the modern
world”#14 states, the church exists in order
to evangelize”.
What we are therefore embarking upon as
a church is not something radically new, but
intrinsic to the church’s mission
Evangelization
is the proclamation of the Gospel, to
Christians and non-Christians, in an attempt
to awaken and/or nourish faith.
It also includes any activity directed
toward the building up of the church and the
transformation of the world toward the Gospel
and the will of God.
